The SPADE anchor is available in three materials—galvanised steel, aluminium, and stainless steel—and comes in ten different sizes. The high-tensile steel versions are hot-dip galvanised. Notably, all SPADE anchors of the same size, irrespective of their material, deliver the same level of efficiency.

The manufacturer emphasises the effective surface area of the anchor rather than its weight. The exceptional efficiency of a SPADE anchor stems from the dimensions and shape of its effective surface. Anchors with the same surface area will exhibit identical holding power, regardless of the material used in their construction.

All models adhere to seven essential safety criteria:

1. The anchor must penetrate the seabed quickly, regardless of the type of bottom.
2. The anchor must embed itself deeply within the substrate.
3. Once set, the anchor should provide maximum holding power without dragging.
4. If the traction force exceeds the anchor`s holding capacity, it must offer consistent and maximum resistance to dragging, even under extreme loads.
5. The anchor must maintain its hold, regardless of changes in wind or current direction.
6. The design must prevent the anchor rope from becoming entangled with the anchor.
7. The anchor must be robust enough to withstand very high loads.
